Not only was George Jones a Country superstar, but also one of the icons who made the American dream to be a reality.
He was born in a very poor family and that did not prevent him from supporting his family since he took to the streets as a child to sing for money. It was until he was 20’s that he started recording his country music. He wrote his first hit in the year 1955 and immediately was inaugurated as one of the Grand Ole Opry performers. After that, he set a lot of history and when he passed away in April 2013 at the age of 81 years, the music industry received a very big blow.
The funeral took place at Jones’ home and it ended up being an occasion to remember. Thousands of country stars went to Nashville for the funeral and they took the stage to give their idol the last respect. As revealed by one Country superstar by the name Vince Gill whom Jones had nicknamed “Sweetpea”, he loved it when someone called him the nickname though he had first disliked it. He knew whoever called him by that name must have loved George Jones.
It was very emotional when Patty Loveless and Gill performed “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and dedicated it to their friend. The performance brought all to tears.
